Karan Johar and Guneet Monga’s joint production ‘Kill’, which is slated to release in India on Friday, July 5, is now set for a Hollywood remake. This marks a huge feat for Indian cinema. As per Variety, ‘John Wick’ director Chad Stahelski and his production company 87Eleven Entertainment will be producing the English-language remake for Lionsgate. This announcement has come ahead of the release of the original Hindi language ‘Kill’, starring Lakshya and Raghav Juyal.

Directed by Nikhil Nagest Bhat, ‘Kill’ is slated to release outside India, a day prior on July 4.

“’Kill’ is one of the most vivid, wild, and creative action movies I’ve seen recently,” Chad Stahelski said in a statement, as per Variety.

“Nikhil delivers relentless action sequences that need to be seen by as wide an audience as possible. It’s exciting to be developing an English-language version — we have big shoes to fill and I’m looking forward to working with Nikhil, Karan, Apoorva, Guneet, and Achin to achieve that,” he further said.

For the unversed, ‘Kill’ is about an army commando Amrit (Lakshya), and how he finds out his lover Tulika (Tanya Maniktala) is engaged against her will. It is then that he boards a train in New Delhi to reunite with his true love.

However, the journey takes a massive turn when a gang of thieves begin to terrorise innocent passengers on the train, prompting Lakshya's Amrit to take the matter in his own hands.

“When we made ‘Kill’ with Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, we dreamed of global love, and seeing North American theaters chant ‘Kill! Kill! Kill!’ was like seeing that vision come alive,” producers of the original — Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta for Dharma Productions, and Guneet Monga Kapoor & Achin Jain from Sikhya Entertainment — said in a joint statement, as per Variety.

“This announcement coming before the original film’s release is unprecedented and a big win for Indian cinema. We are truly honored,” the statement added.
