The world continues to struggle to come to terms with the death of actor Matthew Perry. The actor is famous for playing the role of Chandler Bing in sitcom 'Friends'. Celebrities worldwide are mourning the untimely passing of the star, and in the latest Hollywood news, Perry's former girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow has also condoled the demise.
Paltrow said that she is filled with sadness over the loss of a special friend with whom she once shared a "magical summer." The actress shared an old picture of Matthew Perry, and she talked about how she met him in 1993 at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts.
"I met Matthew Perry in 1993 at the Williamstown Theater Festival in Massachusetts. We were both there for most of the summer doing plays. He was so funny and so sweet and so much fun to be with. We drove out to swim in creeks, had beers in the local college bar, kissed in a field of long grass. It was a magical summer. He had shot the pilot of Friends but it had not aired yet," she wrote on Instagram.
"He was nervous, hoping his big break was just around the corner. It was. We stayed friends for a while until we drifted apart, but I was always happy to see him when I did. I am super sad today, as so many of us are. I hope Matthew is at peace at long last. I really do," she added.

Earlier, Matthew Perry's family also released a statement, condoling the actor's death. “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend,” Matthew Perry’s family said in a statement published by People magazine.
“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love,” they added.
Adele, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Abhishek Bachchan, Kiara Advani had also expressed their shock at the tragic news of Perry's passing.
Talking about Matthew Perry, he gained worldwide recognition for his role as Chandler Bing on 'Friends'.
'Friends' ran for ten seasons from 1994 to 2004. He also earned an Emmy nomination in 2002 for his performance. Apart from Matthew Perry, 'Friends' stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt LeBlanc as Rachel Green, Monica Geller, Ross Geller, Pheobe Buffay, and Joey Tribbiani.
As per Variety, Perry grappled with a long struggle with substance abuse and it stunted his career. The actor released a memoir in 2022 titled, 'Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir'. In the book, Perry opened up on his battle with substance abuse, and he tried to use his experience to help others stay sober.
