Alec Baldwin To Be Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter Over 'Rust' Shooting: Report
As per a report, actor Alec Baldwin is set to be charged with involuntary manslaughter over an incident that took place on the sets of 'Rust'.
In a big development, actor Alec Baldwin will reportedly be charged with involuntary manslaughter over the shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The cinematographer was killed on the sets of movie 'Rust' when Baldwin fired a prop gun. As per a report in the BBC, Baldwin was rehearsing for a scene when the entire incident happened at a ranch near Sante Fe, New Mexico in October 2021.
As per BBC, Hannah Gutierrez Reed who is the armourer of 'Rust' will also be charged.
However, lawyers for both Baldwin and Gutierrez have said that intend to fight the charges in court.
"Actor and producer Alec Baldwin and armourer Hannah Gutierrez Reed will each be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. I have determined that there is sufficient evidence," Santa Fe's District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said in an official statement.
"On my watch, no one is above the law, and everyone deserves justice," she added further.
Rust and Gutierrez face up to 18 months in jail and a USD 5,000 fine if they end up being convicted.
Film director Joel Souza was also wounded in the shooting, however, prosecutors said that no charges would be filed in this particular regard.
The lawyer of Baldwin, has called this decision a "terrible miscarriage of justice".
"Mr Baldwin had no reason to believe there was a live bullet in the gun - or anywhere on the movie set. He relied on the professionals with whom he worked, who assured him the gun did not have live rounds. We will fight these charges, and we will win," said the lawyer.
Baldwin had earlier filed a lawsuit against several people involved with the making of 'Rust', alleging that Gutierrez Reed and film's assistant director David Halls failed to check the gun carefully.
