Backstreet Boys Singer Nick Carter Returns To Stage After Denying Sexual Assault Allegation
Nick Carter returned to stage for the first time since being accused of sexual assault.
Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter returned to the stage to perform a day after being accused of raping a teenager more than 20 years ago. As per E News, the singer performed with the band at Z100's 2022 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball in New York. The singer took the stage and performed hit songs like 'Everybody (Backstreet's Back)', 'I Want It That Way' and 'As Long as You Love Me'.
The band also sang a cover of Wham!'s 1984 song 'Last Christmas'. This song has also been featured on their new holiday album titled 'A Very Backstreet Christmas'.
Last week, a woman named Shannon "Shay" Ruth had filed a sexual battery lawsuit against Carter in Nevada. The 39-year-old woman suffers from autism and cerebral palsy.
In her lawsuit, the woman had accused the singer of raping her in 2001 when she was just 17. She mentioned that the incident happened when Backstreet Boys were on a tour bus following a concert in Tacoma, Washington.
She also mentioned that she was a virgin before her encounter with Nick Carter and she also revealed that she contracted HPV after the incident.
Nick Carter has denied all the allegations as his attorney released a statement, saying: "This claim about an incident that supposedly took place more than 20 years ago is not only legally meritless but also entirely untrue."
"Unfortunately, for several years now, Ms. Ruth has been manipulated into making false allegations about Nick—and those allegations have changed repeatedly and materially over time," the lawyer said further.
Earlier, as a result of these allegations, ABC decided to no longer air the Backstreet Boys Christmas special called ‘A Very Backstreet Holiday’, according to Variety.
