Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter was sued for alleged sexual battery by a woman who claimed that she was assaulted as a teenager, more than 20 years ago. As per several reports, Shannon “Shay” Ruth has filed a sexual battery lawsuit accusing Nick Carter of raping her and infecting her with HPV when she was 17. Reportedly, the lawsuit, filed on Thursday, stated that the assault happened in February 2001 after a Backstreet Boys concert in Tacoma, Washington.

Shannon "Shay" Ruth, who has autism and cerebral palsy, said that after waiting in the autograph line, Nick Carter invited her to join him on his tour bus.

The lawsuit claimed that Nick Carter took the woman to the bathroom, then demanded she performed oral sex on him. Later, the singer allegedly continued to sexually assault her on a bed.

According to the suit, when the accuser tried to leave the tour bus, Nick Carter allegedly stopped her and grabbed her arm. In the court documents, Shannon “Shay” Ruth said that she was a virgin before this horrific incident unfolded, and that she contracted HPV after it.

However, Nick Carter’s lawyer has slammed the allegations levelled against the singer.

In a statement to E! News, Nick Carter's attorney, Michael Holtz said, “This claim about an incident that supposedly took place more than 20 years ago is not only legally meritless but also entirely untrue. Unfortunately, for several years now, Ms. Ruth has been manipulated into making false allegations about Nick – and those allegations have changed repeatedly and materially over time."

He further stated, “No one should be fooled by a press stunt orchestrated by an opportunistic lawyer – there is nothing to this claim whatsoever, which we have no doubt the courts will quickly realize."

As a result of these allegations, ABC has decided to no longer air the Backstreet Boys Christmas special called ‘A Very Backstreet Holiday’, according to Variety.
