Daisy Ridley To Reprise Her Role Of Rey In New 'Star Wars' Film

'Star Wars' fans, we have some news for you! Daisy Ridley will be reprising her role of Rey in the new 'Star Wars' film and her character would be the central focus of the first 'Star Wars' film since 2019's 'The Rise of Skywalker'. The announcement was made by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy on Friday. It has also been confirmed that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy would be directing the new 'Star Wars' film and the script would be written by Steven Knight.
As per Variety, the movie would follow the events of 2019's 'Rise of Skywalker' and the new Hollywood film will focus on Rey as she builds on a new Jedi Order.
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy would now be the first woman and first person of colour to direct a 'Star Wars' film.
Previously, the Pakistani filmmaker has won two Academy Awards for documentary short, in 2011 for 'Saving Face' and in 2015 for 'A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness'.
She had recently directed two episodes of the Disney+ show 'Ms. Marvel'.
For the unversed, Taika Waititi is also developing a 'Star Wars' movie. In this project, he would be directing and also starring.
Shawn Levy is also slated to direct a 'Star Wars' movie following his work on Marvel's 'Deadpool 3' and the Netflix limited series 'All the Light We Cannot See'.
'Star Wars' is a space opera multimedia franchise created by George Lucas, which began with the 1977 film and it then quickly became a worldwide pop culture phenomenon.
The franchise has since been expanded into various films and other media, including television series, video games, novels, comic books, theme park attractions, and themed areas.
'Star Wars' is one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time. All nine films of the "Skywalker Saga" were nominated for Oscars, with wins going to the first two releases.
The combined box office revenue of the 'Star Wars' films equated to over USD 10 billion.
