Grammys 2023: Viola Davis Wins For Best Audiobook, She Now Has EGOT Status!
Grammys 2023: Viola Davis has become the 18th person to have an EGOT status.
Actress Viola Davis won a Grammy for the audiobook of her memoir 'Finding Me' and with this, she scripted a unique feat. Davis now has an EGOT status. With this win, she became just the 18th person to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award. In the decorated list, Davis has joined the likes of Rita Moreno, Alan Menken, Andrew Lloyd Webber, John Legend, Mike Nichols, Mel Brooks, Jennifer Hudson, and Whoopi Goldberg.
As per Variety, Davis' memoir takes readers through her career and the defining moments have been benchmarked such as when she was cast in the murder mystery 'How To Get Away With Murder'.
In her memoir, the actress has also detailed the racism she experienced while growing up in Rhode Island and in Hollywood.
Davis has two Tony awards for 'King Hedley II' and the Broadway revival of 'Fences'. She had won an Emmy for 'How To Get Away With Murder'. She also picked up an Oscar for the 2016 film 'Fences'.
The 65th Grammy Awards are being held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The ceremony is recognising the best recordings, compositions, and artists of the eligibility year (October 1, 2021, to September 30, 2022).
The nominations for Grammys 2023 were announced on November 15 last year. Beyonce received the most nods (9), and she is followed by Kendrick Lamar who has gotten eight nominations.
As soon as Beyonce received nine nods, she tied with her husband Jay Z as the most nominated artist in the history of Grammys. Both Beyonce and Jay Z have now gotten 88 nominations in their career.
Adele and Brandi Carlile have gotten seven nominations each.
Bad Bunny also made history with his 2022 album 'Un Versano Sin Ti' as it became the first Spanish language album to be nominated for the Album of the Year.
