"Might Get Into Trouble": Priyanka Chopra Says She Got "Pay Parity" For 1st Time In 22-Year-Long Career With 'Citadel'
Priyanka Chopra Jonas has revealed it was during working for 'Citadel', that she received the same amount of money as her male counterpart for the very first time in her 22-year-long career.
'Quantico' star Priyanka Chopra Jonas has revealed that for the first time in her 22-year-long career, she received the same amount of money as her male counterpart. The actress who was speaking to Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke at the kickoff of the South by Southwest Film Festival on Friday, revealed that it was for 'Citadel', that she received equal amount of money as co-star Richard Madden.
“I might get into trouble for saying this, depends on who’s watching. I’ve been working in the entertainment industry for now 22 years, and I have done about almost 70-plus features and two TV shows. But when I did Citadel, it was the first time in my career that I had pay parity," the Hollywood Reporter quoted Priyanka Chopra Jonas as saying.
'Citadel' is Prime Video's upcoming marquee series, and it is being touted as a globe-trotting spy-thriller which has been produced by the Russo Brothers, who are famous for directing 'Avengers: Endgame'.
“I’m laughing about this, but it’s kind of nuts. I put in the same amount of investment and work, but I get paid much less. But the ease in which Amazon Studios said, ‘That’s what you deserve, you are co-leads, that’s just fair,’ and I was like, ‘You’re right, it’s fair.’ And I wonder: Did that happen because there are very few female decision-makers in Hollywood? Would that have been a different conversation if a woman didn’t make that decision? Those are not conversations that happened very easily," said Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
The 'Don' actress also shared an anecdote about being body-shamed by an unidentified person before the festival.
“I’ve been told many things that are difficult to hear. I arrive feeling crappy because somebody told me yesterday I wasn’t ‘sample sized.’ I was hurt and I discussed it with my family and I cried to my husband and my team and I felt really bad about the fact I’m not sample-sized and that that’s a problem, apparently. Most of us are not. ‘Sample-sized’ is a size 2," said the actress.
'Citadel' will premiere on Prime Video on April 28. The series will debut with two episodes on this date and it will be followed by a new episode releasing weekly on every Friday.
For the unversed, Priyanka Chopra is leading the American version of Citadel while actors Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu will be seen in the Indian segment of the 'Citadel' universe.
