Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor Trolled For Saying Michelle Yeoh's Oscars Win Would Be "PR Campaign Centered Around Race"
Oscars 2023: After Michelle Yeoh picked up the Oscar for Best Leading Actress, Indian actor Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor was trolled for his now-deleted tweet.
Michelle Yeoh achieved quite a feat as she became the first Asian woman to win an Oscar in the Lead Actress category. She won the accolade for her epic portrayal in 'Everything Everywhere All At Once'. The movie itself had quite a run at Oscars 2023, as it picked up seven awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Original Screenplay. But just two days ahead of Oscars 2023, actor Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor came up with a controversial tweet regarding Michelle Yeoh, which he has now deleted.
On March 10, Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor, who also happens to be Anil Kapoor's son, had tweeted about this year's Best Actress category and how he was "having nightmares" because of the possibility of Cate Blanchett ('Tar') losing to Michelle Yeoh because of a "PR campaign".
"I’m getting nightmares about Cate Blanchett losing to Michelle Yeoh at the Oscars… how can a PR campaign centered around race put one of the best performances of all time in the shadows? Any opinions guys," he said in a now-deleted tweet.
He should be losing sleep over the fact that he'll never, ever be able to give a performance like Michelle Yeoh despite the many, many privileges and opportunities presented to him. pic.twitter.com/rD34giObCf

The actor received such huge backlash on Saturday, and eventually deleted his tweet. However, for several hours on Saturday, Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor did actually reply to trolls and he was also willing to indulge in a conversation with people who had something constructive to say.
As soon as Michelle Yeoh won the accolade for Lead Actress, netizens once again brought up the tweet of Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor, and many took to Twitter to take a potshot at him.
Here are some of the reactions:

Michelle showed so much more range. These people don’t want to acknowledge it because she’s not having a mental breakdown and moral dilemmas every 5 seconds. Best actress awards shouldn’t be boxed down to just the drama genre. https://t.co/xfDzMW4GZ6
