It would have been an average Monday for us but the wins of the ‘RRR’ team and ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ team at Oscars 2023 changed our moods as we woke up to the good news! SS Rajamouli’s directorial ‘RRR’ and Guneet Monga’s production venture ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ bagged two Oscars for India, making it a thrilling and memorable 95th Academy Awards for us. The ‘RRR’ chartbuster ‘Naatu Naatu’ won in the Best Original Song category and ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ emerged as the winner in the Best Documentary Shorts category.

The third nominee from India, Shaunak Sen’s ‘All That Breathes’, lost to ‘Navalny’ in the Best Documentary Feature Film segment.

Michelle Yeoh-starrer ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ dominated the 95th Academy Awards with seven trophies.

Apart from winning an Oscar, ‘Naatu Naatu’ was performed live at the ceremony, with an introduction by Deepika Padukone. Team ‘RRR’, including SS Rajamouli and actors Ram Charan and Jr NTR, attended the awards.

Besides ‘Naatu Naatu’ being performed by singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava in their Oscar debut, other performers included Lady Gaga, who sang ‘Hold My Hand’ from ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, Rihanna, who took the stage for a rendition of her first Oscar-nominated tune, ‘Lift Me Up’ from ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’.

David Byrne, Stephanie Hsu and Son Lux sang ‘This Is a Life’ from ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’, and Sofia Carson hit the stage to perform Diane Warren’s ‘Applause’ from ‘Tell It Like a Woman’. Lenny Kravitz performed during the ‘In Memoriam’ segment.

Michelle Yeoh created history by winning best actress in a leading role - she's the first Asian woman to do so, beating the likes of Cate Blanchett who was nominated for her acclaimed turn in ‘Tar’.

Brendan Fraser won ‘Best Actor’ for The Whale and ‘All Quiet On The Western Front’ picked up four Oscars.

The Oscars 2023 were held on March 12 in Los Angeles’ Dolby theatre. It was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, who had returned for his third stint as the host, for the 95th Academy Awards.
