Oscars 2023: Jimmy Kimmel To Host, Will He Address Infamous Will Smith Slap?
Oscars 2023: Jimmy Kimmel has been named the host for the 95th Academy Awards, set to take place on March 12, 2023. This will mark Kimmel’s third time fronting the ceremony.
Oscars 2023 will be hosted by a familiar face! Comedian Jimmy Kimmel will front the 95th Academy Awards ceremony, set to air in March 2023. This will mark the 55-year-old talk show star’s third time hosting Hollywood’s biggest night. Jimmy Kimmel, who hosted the awards ceremony in 2017 and 2018, is set to present the 95th Oscars on March 12, 2023. Kimmel’s hosting gig was announced recently by Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner, the executive producers and showrunners behind the Oscars.
Oscars 2023 host Kimmel addressed the Will Smith and Chris Rock controversy that took place during Oscars 2022. On being asked if the Oscars 2022 slap controversy would be mentioned during his hosting gig, Kimmel told Extra, “It’s got to come up in some way.”
He added, “You know, I don’t want to really make light of it necessarily, because it wasn’t [light] to comedians. You know, comedians are mad about it. … It’s like, it’s one of those things that for a group of people that find everything funny, it’s, like, not funny, you know? But of course … when they read the wrong winner one year when I hosted the Oscars, we had to make mention of that the next year.”
Last year, the Oscars ceremony was hosted by Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes. However, the funniest bits were overshadowed after Will Smith slapped presenter Chris Rock, who had cracked a joke about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
Coming back to Oscars 2023, the official nominations will be announced on January 24. The 95th Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.
