Oscars 2023: 'Naatu Naatu' wins Best Original Song!

'Naatu Naatu' is the pride of every India, said 'Naatu Naatu' composer MM Keeravani on Oscar's stage and he could not be more right! The 'RRR' track made it big at the ongoing Oscars 2023 as it picked up a win in the Best Original Song category and as a result, the song continues its winning run in the West.

This is the first time that a song from any Indian film has won in the Best Original Song category.

As a part of his acceptance speech, composer MM Keeravani sang a self-composed song in the honour of 'RRR' director SS Rajamouli, and India.

While the song became the first track from an Indian film to pick up an Oscars, it is the second Indian song to pick up the prestigious award, after 'Jai Ho' from 'Slumdog Millionaire' which had picked up a win in the same category in 2009.

Earlier, ‘Naatu Naatu’ was also performed live on stage at the Oscar Awards. Actress Deepika Padukone had introduced the performers on stage. Rahul Sipligunj and Kalaa Bairavaa performed 'Naatu Naatu' live on stage.

‘Naatu Naatu’, composed by MM Keeravani and sung by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, was competing against the likes of ‘Applause’ from ‘Tell It Like a Woman’, ‘Hold My Hand’ from ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, ‘Lift Me Up’ from ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ and ‘This Is a Life’ from ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ in the Best Original Song Category.

It’s almost been a year since SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ released in theatres and it has been unstoppable since then.

The 95th Academy Awards are being held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Jimmy Kimmel is hosting the mega awards night and this is his third time, hosting the event, after the 89th and 90th editions of the ceremony which were held in 2017 and 2018 respectively. The nominations for Oscars 2023 were announced on January 24 by actors Riz Amed and Allison Williams.

Both 'Avatar: The Way Of Water' and 'Top Gun: Maverick' secured nominations in the Best Picture category, and hence this marked the first time that two sequels will be featuring in one ceremony.

'All Quiet on the Western Front' secured nine nominations for this year's Oscars. Michelle Yeoh, the star of 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' became the first Asian to pick up a nomination in the Best Actress category.
