The actress confirmed the news as she was speaking to the press after winning the BAFTA Rising Star Award on Sunday. After the win, she was asked whether she would be back for Season 5 or not, and it was then that she confirmed the news. "Season 5? I've just finished the fourth one last week! No, I don't think I'll be in season 5. I've said goodbye to Maeve," radiotimes.com quoted Mackey as saying.
Fans of the show are now disappointed and many of them took to Twitter to express their sadness.

'Sex Education' is a Netflix British comedy series which has been created by Laurie Nunn. The show follows the lives of the students, staff and parents of the fictional Moordale Secondary School as they deal with various personal dilemmas, often related to sexual intimacy.
The series stars Asa Butterfield, Gillian Anderson, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Connor Swindells, Kedar Williams-Stirling, Alistair Petrie, Mimi Keene, and Aimee Lou Wood, among others.
The first season premiered in 2019 while the second season came in 2020. The third season was released in 2021, and now the fourth season is expected to release in 2023.
