The Cholas are back! The release date for Mani Ratnam’s much-anticipated film ‘PS-2’, the sequel to the 2022 blockbuster ‘PS 1’, is finally out. Lyca Productions, the production house behind the movie, is bidding farewell to 2022 with a banger of an announcement. The production house has announced the release date of the upcoming film ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ along with an intriguing teaser. So, without any further delays, ‘PS 2’ is coming to theatres near you on April 28, 2023!

The new teaser gives a glimpse of Chola prince Aditya Karikalan (Chiyaan Vikram) sitting in front of a Kali statute.
The teaser also offers glimpses of Nandini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), Arulmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi) and Vandhiyathevan (Karthi). Nandini can be seen sitting in front of a mirror, while Arulmozhi Varman is seen walking amid the monks.
On the other hand, Vandhiyathevan, sitting in the forest, is seen with many wounds.
The text in the teaser reads, "The Cholas are back."
‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’, which became the highest-grossing movie of all time in Tamil Nadu, ended with a cliffhanger, which had Arulmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi) and Vandhiyathevan (Karthi) being drowned in the sea after a face-off with Pandyas.
‘PS-1’, which enjoyed a successful run in cinemas, managed to gross Rs 335 crore in India and Rs 500 crore worldwide.
Based on the 1995 renowned novel series of Kalki Krishnamoorthy, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ tells the fictionalised story of Raja Raja Cholan and his ascension to the crown. The first part revolved around the early life of Chola Prince Arulmozhi Varman.
The music for ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ was given by AR Rahman and the cinematography was handled by Ravi Varman.
The period drama’s second part will feature Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sobhita Dhulipala.
‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ will release in five regional languages Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
