Mrunal Thakur Reveals She Cried During ‘Sita Ramam’ As She Didn’t Know Telugu
Mrunal Thakur’s third Telugu film ‘Family Star’, co-starring Vijay Deverakonda, will be released in cinemas this Friday.
Indian actress Mrunal Thakur, who was last seen alongside actor Nani in ‘Hi Nanna’, is popular among the masses for her impressive acting performances. Mrunal Thakur had been working in the Hindi film industry before she took the leap of faith and entered the Telugu film industry with ‘Sita Ramam’, co-starring Dulquer Salmaan. Since, she is not a Telugu-speaking person, doing a film in the language was quite tough for her. However, she will soon be seen in her third Telugu movie ‘Family Star’, co-starring Vijay Deverakonda.
Ahead of the release of ‘Family Star’, which she has been actively promoting, Mrunal Thakur revealed that there were days when she wanted to quit doing Telugu films.
In an interview with Galatta Plus, Mrunal Thakur opened up about her previous inhibitions when it came to joining Tollywood and her process while working in the films.
The Indian actress said, “I didn’t want to be in a space where I feel handicapped because when you don’t know the language, you feel restless and I kid you not, I did have moments where I wanted to give up. I have literally cried but every drop of tear has brought praise for me.”
Mrunal Thakur, who played the role of a princess in ‘Sita Ramam’, added, “Earlier I felt like what was more important was what mattered was the story and language was manageable but I think if you don’t know the language it gets a bit tough and since childhood, I wanted to be a princess. So, this was the best opportunity and my preparation started from childhood.”
After ‘Sita Ramam’, Mrunal Thakur did ‘Hi Nanna’ alongside Telugu star Nani. The movie, which released in December 2023, opened to favourable reviews.
Since Mrunal Thakur’s mother tongue is Hindi and Marathi, her process of delivering dialogue involved all three languages known to her.
She explained, “It’s a three-language translation. Sometimes you don’t have the time to do that because suddenly the scene is written and the light is going and we don’t have the location tomorrow. So earlier I used to write a dialogue in Telugu, translate it into English because it was the only common language between my ADs and then I would translate it into Hindi or Marathi because that is my mother tongue.”
The Indian actress also revealed that she didn’t plan to do more Telugu films after ‘Sita Ramam’ but her co-star Dulquer Salmaan thought otherwise.
Mrunal Thakur said, “Dulquer is a God’s child. I am not shy to say that I am the president of Dulquer Salmaan fan club because that is how much I admire him. He is so dedicated and not afraid of the language. I remember I told him in Kashmir, ‘Sita Ramam is my first and last film in Telugu. I will not do any Telugu film’. He just looked at me and said, ‘We’ll see’. I think one of the reasons why I am today considering Tamil film or Kannada film is probably because of him.”
Mrunal Thakur is now gearing up for the release of ‘Family Star’, directed by Parasuram and co-starring Vijay Deverakonda. ‘Family Star’ is set to release in theatres on April 5.
