Smriti Irani is all set to return as Tulsi Virani in the reboot of ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’, 25 years after the iconic show's debut.
It was more than just a show – it was a cultural revolution. ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ redefined Indian television when it premiered in 2000, quickly becoming a household staple with its emotional twists and unforgettable characters. The saga of Tulsi Virani and the Virani parivaar ruled the TRP charts for over seven straight years, aired over 1,800 episodes, and established its legacy as one of the most-watched serials in Indian TV history. And now, as the beloved show completed 25 years, it’s ready for a grand comeback – with the original Tulsi, Smriti Irani, returning.
StarPlus has officially unveiled the first promo of the reboot, and fans are losing it.

The teaser clip, shared on their Instagram handle, opened with a family dining at a restaurant when suddenly the iconic title track of ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ played on the TV. The nostalgic tune triggered a conversation among them – will Smriti Irani return as Tulsi? That question was quickly answered when the video cut to Tulsi herself.
Dressed in a saree with her hair tied in a bun, Smriti Irani was seen watering a tulsi plant, before turning to the camera with a warm smile and folded hands.
“Zaroor aaoongi, kyuki humara 25 saalon ka rishta jo hai. Waqt aagaya hai aapse phir milne ka,” she said, confirming her return.
The caption on the post read, “Kya aap abhi bhi vishwaas nahi kar paa rahe?
25 saal ke baad, Tulsi Virani laut rahi hai, ek nayi kahaani ke saath! #KyunkiSaasBhiKabhiBahuThi ek baar phir taayaar hai har ghar ka hissa bann ne. Kya aap bhi taiyaar ho?”
Further, it added that the show is all set to once again become part of every Indian household. The new season will air from July 29 at 10:30 pm on Star Plus, and will also be available to stream on JioHotstar.

The revival aims to strike a balance between retaining the original’s emotional core and bringing in a fresh, modern sensibility to appeal to younger viewers. Ekta Kapoor, the creator of the original, is back at the helm.
Alongside Smriti Irani, ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2’ will also feature returning faces like Amar Upadhyay, Hiten Tejwani, and Gauri Pradhan. As the legacy continues, the question is: are you ready to welcome Tulsi back into your home?
