Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar', starring Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari and Sharmin Segal, released on Netflix on May 1. The new Hindi web series has met with mixed response, however, all the actors have received praise for their performance on the show. In the latest entertainment news, Netflix has finally released the viewership numbers, and we are happy to report that 'Heeramandi' has made India proud in "43 countries". 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar' has debuted in second place on the ‘Non-English TV List’ with 4.5M views.
"The series is our biggest Indian scripted series premiere to date with 4.5M views globally and ranked in the Top 10 in 43 countries," Netflix stated in its official release.
'Heeramandi's first week viewership also puts it ahead of major international shows such as 'Supersex' (3.2 million in week 1), 'Baby Reindeer (2.6 million views in week 1), and 'Ripley' (2.3 million views).
Overall on Netflix, Richard Gadd's 'Baby Reindeer', was the most-watched title on the streaming platform this week, spending its third consecutive week atop the English TV List, with 18.6M views.
Earlier, Stephen King had termed ‘Baby Reindeer’ as "one of the best things I’ve ever seen."
The true crime-inspired limited series 'The Asunta Case' (Spain) has also kept the top spot on the ‘Non-English TV List’ for the second week in a row, with 11.9M views.
Coming back to 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar', the show encompasses themes of love, power, vengeance, and liberation.
Set in the era of India's struggle for independence in the 1940s, 'Heeramandi' explores the cultural nuances of the red-light district in Lahore known for its courtesans and their clientele. The show’s music is helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
For the unversed, the total run-time of the eight-episode 'Heeramandi' is seven hours and 19 minutes.
