While Bollywood megastars Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan share cordial ties today, there was a time when things between the two superstars were far from friendly. Back in the day, as they carved their own space in Bollywood, a cold war of sorts brewed – especially when their films ‘My Name Is Khan’ and ‘3 Idiots’ released just two months apart. Both stars had taken subtle digs at one another during that phase. Now, in a candid chat with Lallantop, Aamir Khan revisited that era, revealing how he and SRK used to call each other “chichora”.

During the release of ‘3 Idiots’, Aamir Khan had revealed that he had named his pet dog ‘Shah Rukh’. Clarifying this statement with Lallantop, Aamir said, “Shah Rukh aksar mujhpe mazak karta rehta hain naa har saal jab award function hota hai, main toh jaata nahi hun. Toh har saal mazak voh mujhpe karte rehte hain.”

Speaking further about the two calling each other ‘chichora’, Aamir said, “Actually ek period tha jab Shah Rukh aur main ek dusre ke liye kaafi kuch bol rahe the. Shayad vo naa khush the mujhse because I don’t talk about others in my interviews. Anyway, let’s leave all that behind.”

“Shah Rukh is a good friend of mine. When our careers started, there was natural competition between us. But that faded away 10–15 years ago — at least from my side, and I think from his side as well. It was childish behaviour,” he added.

For the unversed, Aamir Khan's ‘3 Idiots’ released in theatres in December 2009, while Shah Rukh's ‘My Name Is Khan’ hit the theatres in February 2010. To promote his film, Aamir travelled to different regions of India.

When Shah Rukh was asked about Aamir's promotional strategy, the 'Pathaan' actor had replied, “I apologise for using such word, but 'yeh ek kism ka chichorapan lagta hai. I would never go to such lengths to promote my film. There's a way to promote every film and we have a unique strategy to promote this film (My Name Is Khan).”

However, Aamir Khan did not take this comment lying down as he snapped back at SRK. In an interview with ABP News, he said, “Shah Rukh is a wise man. If I am going to different regions in our country and he thinks it's chichorapan, then what can I say, this is his thinking. Jaha tak baat hai chhichhorapan ki, toh woh (Shah Rukh) jyada jaante honge iss chiz ke baare mein kyuki woh khud kaafi chhichhorapan karte hai apni zindagi mein. Woh expert hai inn sab mein.”

Speaking of Aamir Khan, the Bollywood megastar has finally delivered his first hit since 2017’s ‘Secret Superstar’ as ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ continues to rake in the moolah at the ticket counters.

On Monday, the 11th day of its release, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ earned Rs 3.75 crore, taking the total nett domestic collection to Rs 126.40 crore. Worldwide, the film has gone past the Rs 200 crore mark.
