Imtiaz Ali's latest Hindi movie 'Amar Singh Chamkila', starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, has become the talk of the town. The new Hindi movie, which is based on the famous Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila who was killed aged 27, has been garnering positive feedback from all corners. Imtiaz Ali has finally regained his mojo after delivering underwhelming films like 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' and 'Love Aaj Kal 2'. As 'Amar Singh Chamkila' continues to receive a positive response, we have decided to name our favourite films of Imtiaz Ali.
So without further ado, the list is as follows:
Rockstar (2011)
Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri-starrer released in cinemas in November 2011, and the film became an instant hit. Over the years, 'Rockstar’ has achieved a cult status and its soundtrack has a different fanbase altogether. Apart from Ranbir and Nargis, the film also stars Aditi Rao Hydari, Piyush Mishra, Shernaz Patel, Kumud Mishra and Shammi Kapoor. We still cannot get over the songs 'Sadda Haq', 'Jo Bhi Main', 'Phir Se Udd Chala', 'Aur Ho', 'Kun Faaya Kun', and 'Tum Ho'. For the unversed, the soundtrack was composed by none other than AR Rahman.
Jab We Met (2007)
This Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan-starrer released in cinemas in October 2007. The Hindi film also stars Tarun Arora, Saumya Tandon and Dara Singh in supporting roles. The plot deals with Shahid's Aditya Kashyap meeting a talkative girl, Geet, played by Kareena Kapoor, on a train. The film is viewed as one of the greatest movies of both Shahid and Kareena's career.
Tamasha (2015)
This Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone-starrer is a psychological coming-of-age romantic drama film. The film's score and soundtrack album were composed by AR Rahman, while lyrics for the songs have been penned by Irshad Kamil. Tamasha was filmed in the Indian cities of Shimla, Delhi, Gurgaon, and Kolkata, with additional filming in Tokyo and Corsica. The film tells the story of character Ved Vardhan Sahni (Ranbir Kapoor) in three stages – as a 9-year-old child, a 19-year-old adolescent and a 30-year-old adult. The movie bombed at the box office initially, however, years later after the release, the movie attained new found acceptance, and fans of Imtiaz Ali rate this as his best film ever.
Socha Na Tha (2005)
'Socha Na Tha' is a Hindi-language romantic comedy film. The movie marked the debut of Abhay Deol and it also stars Ayesha Takia and Apoorva Jha. The film is the directorial debut of Imtiaz Ali. It received positive reviews upon its release. Not many have seen this film, but we highly recommend you check this out.
Love Aaj Kal (2009)
This Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone-starrer was released in theatres in July 2009. Apart from Saif and Deepika, the movie also stars Rishi Kapoor and Giselli Monteiro. Even Neetu Kapoor has a special appearance in the film. The plot revolves around Jai (Saif) and Meera's (Deepika) journey, and portrays the feeling of pure love which never changes.
