Everyone is hailing Karan Johar's directorial venture ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’. The family entertainer, featuring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles, has been performing well at the box office. The new Hindi movie, also starring Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi and Jaya Bachchan, is already inching closer to the Rs 50 crore mark. ‘RRKPK’ is garnering immense praise for everything, from Ranveer-Alia’s chemistry to the catchy songs and touching upon important issues. However, there’s one particular scene in the new Bollywood film that left everyone surprised.

We are talking about Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi’s kissing scene in the movie. In the scene, the two come face-to-face after years. A few seconds later, Dharmendra sings the timeless classic ‘Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar’ and seals the moment as he kisses Shabana Azmi. ‘Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar’, from Dev Anand's film ‘Hum Dono’, was sung by Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi.

Dharmendra recently opened up about the kissing scene and told News 18, “I am hearing that Shabana and I have surprised the audience with the kissing scene, and at the same time they have even applauded it. I think people weren't expecting it and it came very suddenly which is why it created an impact. The last time I did a kissing scene was in Life In A Metro with Nafisa Ali and at that time too people had appreciated it."

The iconic veteran actor added, “When Karan narrated the scene to us, I did not get excited (laughs). We understood it and I realised that it was something that the film required and wasn’t forcefully put in and I said I will do it. Also, I believe there is no age for romance. Age is just a number and two people irrespective of age will show their love for each other by kissing.”

He further said, “Shabana and I both did not feel any kind of awkwardness while doing it as it was very aesthetically shot."

Dharmendra also spoke about his collaboration with Karan Johar in ‘RRKPK’ and said, “I always feel that I could have done better (laughs). But Karan has made a fantastic film and he is such a good director. It was my first collaboration with him and I thoroughly enjoyed it.”

He added, “All the actors have performed really well. Ranveer is terrific and Alia is such a natural actor. Shabana is great in the film and so is Jaya who I always refer to as my Guddi. The film has been released and I hope people go and watch the film in theatres and continue to shower their love."

In the new Hindi movie, Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra play lost lovers who reunite after years through their grandchildren.

‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, which released in theatres on July 28, minted Rs 45.90 crore during its first weekend despite competition from Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ and Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’.

‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, which also stars Tota Roy Choudhury and Churni Ganguly, is a full-blown family entertainer. The film revolves around two opposites, Rocky (played by Ranveer Singh) and Rani (played by Alia Bhatt), who fall in love but their families clash with each other due to cultural differences.

They decide to switch their homes in the movie to know if they are compatible with each other’s families. Penned by Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan and Sumit Roy, the new Hindi movie also features cameos from Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan and Ananya Panday.
