'OMG 2' director Amit Rai has revealed that streaming platform Netflix is not ready to show the uncut version of his film.
Indian filmmakers have a love-hate relationship with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). More often than not, the censor board ends up applying the scissor on certain scenes. In 'Pathaan', the word Prime Minister was replaced by President. However, the CBFC was truly severe with Pankaj Tripathi, Akshay Kumar and Yami Gautam-starrer 'OMG 2'. The film which released on August 11, received 'adults only' certificate, and certain scenes were also chopped.
Recently, it was announced that 'OMG 2' will be premiering on Netflix on October 8. In the latest entertainment news, 'OMG 2' director Amit Rai has revealed that the streaming platform is not ready to show the uncut version of the film, and the same theatrical version would start streaming from October 8.
“I don’t know what their apprehensions are. They (the streaming platform) will show the same version that the Censor Board passed. Ab ispe aur kya hi kar sakte hain? Saare desh ne chilla chilla ke bola par phir bhi Censor Board ko sunaayi nahin de raha, toh koi kuch nahin kar sakta," Amit Rai told Hindustan Times.
Talking about the hypocrisy of CBFC, he said, "When I watched Gadar 2 in theatre, which is a U/A certificate film, a condom ad in which Kartik Aaryan asks a girl about her preferred condom flavour played before the film started. That can be shown? It is pure hypocrisy. I am not against any film, but didn’t Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023) have so many kissing scenes? Was it okay for the kids to watch that?”
For the unversed, 'OMG 2' had released on the same day as 'Gadar 2', and despite facing such stiff competition, the movie went on to make more than Rs 150 crore at the domestic box office.
The plot of 'OMG 2' revolves around how a father (Pankaj Tripathi) ends up going to the court, after his son is expelled from a school for masturbating.
