Here’s when and where you can watch ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra.

Brace yourselves for a thrilling ride, filled with love, drama and good music. Imtiaz Ali, known for directing hit movies like ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Love Aaj Kal’, ‘Rockstar’, Highway’ and more, is coming out with his next directorial spectacle titled ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’. The new Hindi movie, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, is all set to release on Netflix on April 12, 2024. For the unversed, the film will tell the untold true story of Punjab’s original rockstar, the highest record-selling artist of his time, Amar Singh Chamkila, who is often referred to as the ‘Elvis Presley of Punjab’.

Netflix India took to X (formerly Twitter) and dropped an announcement video, revealing the release date of the upcoming film.

Check out the announcement video below:

The new Hindi movie has been shot in real locations, and the film promises to transport the audiences to the vibrant and rhythmic world of Punjab's folk music, right to the rustic Akhadaas (live music performances in villages) where Amar Singh Chamkila’s voice would once roar. In the film, Diljit Dosanjh is playing the titular character.

The film also stars Parineeti Chopra as Amarjot, Chamkila’s wife and singing partner.

With the maestro AR Rahman helming the music for the film and Irshad Kamil penning the lyrics, the audience will once again get to witness the magic of a Rahman – Imtiaz - Irshad collaboration.

Diljit and Parineeti have also lent their voices to some of the songs. “For the first time, the film will showcase live music recordings done on locations capturing the rawness and the exuberance of each moment as Diljit & Parineeti sing live in the Akhadaas,” an official release stated.

The film is produced by Mohit Choudhary, Select Media Holdings LLP, Saregama, and Window Seat Films.

Earlier, speaking about the film, Diljit Dosanjh had said, “It has been a pleasure to work with Parineeti and the entire team that has worked extremely hard to bring this beautiful story to life. To be able to sing to Rahman sir’s exemplary music was a meditative experience and I hope I have been able to do justice to his vision. Thank you Imtiaz bhajee for believing in me for this role.”

For the unversed, Amar Singh Chamkila and his wife Amarjot were gunned down on March 8, 1988 by a gang of motorcyclists. The case was never solved, and no arrest was made. However, it was alleged that Sikh militants were behind the killings.
