Watch: Kamal Haasan Reveals Shah Rukh Khan Did ‘Hey Ram’ For Free
Kamal Haasan, who directed Shah Rukh Khan in the 2000 movie ‘Hey Ram’, has revealed that the actor did not charge a single penny for the film.
Kamal Haasan’s 2000 film ‘Hey Ram’ is considered to be a path-breaking movie despite not working very well at the box office. Over the years, ‘Hey Ram’ has gained a cult status among the cinephiles. For the unversed, Kamal Haasan not only directed and produced the film, but he also played the lead role. The film also starred Shah Rukh Khan. At the trailer launch event of his upcoming movie ‘Indian 2’, Kamal Haasan revealed that SRK did not charge a single penny for the film.
“Let me talk on behalf of Mr SRK because I am sure that he’ll allow me to do that. When we worked together, we were all just people. I don’t see a superstar; he doesn’t see a super director. We are friends. As a matter of fact, Shah Rukh saab made that film (Hey Ram) for free. What more do you need?” he said.
As soon as Kamal Haasan made this revelation, the audience broke into huge applause and cheer.

“That’s not something a superstar would do. That takes a true fan of cinema, a connoisseur of art, and a brilliant actor. I’m incredibly grateful to him. We don’t see ourselves that way. You, the audience, give us these titles, and we shyly accept them,” Kamal Haasan added.
For the unversed, ‘Hey Ram’ was India's official entry to the Oscars for the Best Foreign Language Film category. The movie tackled themes such as religious intolerance and the impact of violence on individuals and society.
Coming back to ‘Indian 2’, the trailer of the film was unveiled on Tuesday evening. The movie is slated to release in cinemas on July 12, 2024, and the movie will be clashing with Akshay Kumar's ‘Sarfira’. The trailer makes it clear that Kamal Haasan's Senapathy is living in disguise.
