Karan Johar has now expressed disappointment over a comedy show's portrayal of him, saying it is in “exceptionally poor taste”.

Indian director and producer Karan Johar, who tasted success in 2023 with the hit Hindi movie ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, is known to be a polarising figure. He has often faced flak for allegedly promoting nepotism, and he is also criticised for speaking his mind. The director, who last served as a producer for Sidharth Malhotra, Disha Patani and Raashii Khanna’s ‘Yodha’, has now expressed disappointment over a comedy show's portrayal of him, saying it is in “exceptionally poor taste”.

Taking to Instagram Stories, Karan Johar talked about the disrespect from “your own industry”.

“I was sitting and watching television with my mom... and saw a promo of a reality comedy show on a supposedly respectable channel ... a comic was mimicking me in exceptionally poor taste,” he wrote on IG Stories.

“I expect this from trolls and faceless and nameless people but when your own industry can disrespect someone who has been in the business for over 25 years it speaks volumes about the times we live in... this doesn't even anger me it just makes me sad,” he added.

Even Ektaa Kapoor reacted to this, and she wrote on IG Stories, “Happened so many times! Ugly humour sometimes on shows. N even award functions. N then they expect you to attend! Karan please ask them to imitate one movie or classic of yours.”

Although Karan Johar did not name the show or channel, several users on the internet have hinted towards a promo shared by Sony and it is from the comedy show ‘Madness Machayenge India Ko Hasayenge’.

Comedian Kettan Singh, who portrayed Karan Johar on the show, has now also issued an apology.

“I would like to apologise to Karan (Johar) sir. First of all, whatever impersonation I do because I watch a lot of Karan Johar on the coffee show, I am a fan of his work. I have seen his latest film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani 5 to 6 times. I am a huge fan of his work and his show. If my actions hurt him, I would like to apologise to him. My intention was not to hurt him. I just wanted to entertain audience but if I did something extra, I would like to say sorry to him,” he told Times Now.

Speaking about Karan Johar, he recently hosted the eighth season of ‘Koffee With Karan’.
