Karan Johar Compares Alia Bhatt And Ranveer Singh’s Chemistry To That Of Shah Rukh Khan And Kajol
Karan Johar compared the chemistry between Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol.
Who doesn’t love watching Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol together on screen? The iconic duo first worked with each other in the 1993 Bollywood film ‘Baazigar’, and since then, they have been creating magic on the silver screen. Kajol and SRK, who went on to star in several movies together over the years, have given us memorable couples that we continue to cherish to date, be it Raj-Simran, Rahul-Anjali, or Rizwan-Mandira. While ‘Baazigar’ was their first film, ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ remains their most popular movie to date.
Kajol and SRK went on to deliver many hit movies like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, ‘Karan Arjun’, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' and ‘My Name Is Khan’. And it’s almost impossible to imagine that any other actors from this generation can create SRK and Kajol’s magic on the big screen. However, Karan Johar thinks otherwise. And the onscreen couple in his mind? Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh.
At Bollywood Hungama OTT Fest, Karan Johar was asked about the success of ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, and how he created magic between his lead stars Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. In response, he said, “I think they are buddies. They are close friends and so relaxed with each other.”
He then shared that “great friends result in great chemistry” and gave the example of the most-loved pairing of Indian cinema -- Kajol and SRK.
He added, “Alia and Ranveer, the absolute comfort is what you see as chemistry. They are easy with each other.. the look (they are) giving. Often, when you are in a love relationship or marriage, the chemistry is actually not as efficient or as effective.”
Karan Johar’s comments left the host quite surprised, who then asked if that was the case with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol too. Karan Johar replied in the affirmative and went on to talk about his experience directing Shah Rukh Khan.
“SRK is in my opinion is the best experience you can have on a film set,” Karan Johar shared, describing King Khan as “magnetic, charming, magnanimous and majestic”.
He added, “He is also so human and real. When he is on set, he wants everyone happy. He is the most unselfish actor. Apart from his performance, he also has the largest heart.”
Karan Johar further said, “He is truly the Emperor of entertainment. The creator of love in cinema. He added that fans “love” love because of SRK. “He is love. You can very well tell someone I SRK you,” KJo said.
Coming back to Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, they reunited for Karan Johar’s ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ after starring together in the 2019 hit ‘Gully Boy’.
However, many were left unimpressed, complaining that there was no chemistry between the Bollywood stars during the initial promos of the Hindi movie. A scene from the first song ‘Tum Kya Mile’ also went viral on social media as fans compared Alia-Ranveer’s chemistry to Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s chemistry in ‘Suraj Hua Maddham’.
Fans were also left unimpressed after watching the trailer of the Hindi movie. However, that may have changed after they watched the film. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt were widely applauded for their performances as Rocky Randhawa and Rani Chatterjee. Fans also loved their chemistry in the movie, with many calling it “crackling” on Twitter.
‘RRKPK’, also starring Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan and Dharmendra, performed well at the box office, having crossed the Rs 150 crore mark in India and collecting over Rs 300 crore worldwide.
