Karan Johar Gives Major Update On ‘Student Of The Year 3’. Details Inside
Karan Johar recently shared a big update on whether or not ‘Student Of The Year 3’ is in the making.
Karan Johar’s 2012 directorial venture ‘Student Of The Year’ introduced viewers to Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra, marking their Bollywood debuts. The 2012 Hindi movie, set in a fictional Indian high school, revolved around the lives of Rohan (Varun), Shanaya (Alia) and Abhimanyu (Sidharth) who came from different backgrounds and faced various personal and academic challenges. Karan Johar’s ‘SOTY’ was a perfect blend of drama, romance, music, dance and stunning costumes. The Karan Johar directorial was a commercial success. A sequel of the film, ‘Student Of The Year 2’, was released in 2019.
The 2019 Hindi movie, directed by Punit Malhotra and produced by Karan Johar, launched Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria in the entertainment industry. It also starred Tiger Shroff.
Last year, several reports suggested that the next installment in the ‘Student of the Year’ franchise is being turned into a web series. And now, Karan Johar has finally confirmed the same.
Karan Johar spilled the beans about ‘Student Of The Year 3’ at the Cinevesture International Film Festival (CIFF) in Chandigarh. Talking about it, he revealed that Reema Maya of ‘Nocturnal Burger fame will direct the upcoming series.
Speaking about collaborating with emerging directors and writers, Karan Johar cited Reema Maya’s example, stating, “Reema Maya will be directing the digital version of Student of the Year. But it will be her way and definitely not mine because if I’ll enter Reema Maya’s world, then I will make it more of an illusion, which is what her name means. I just wanted it to be her voice. She made it her own series.”
Reema Maya, an award-winning writer-director, is known for her independent filmmaking. Her short films, including ‘Counterfeit Kunkoo’, have been well-received at film festivals like Sundance. Her recent work, ‘Nocturnal Burger’, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2023.
Last year, there were also reports suggesting that KJo will cast Shanaya Kapoor in ‘Student Of The Year 3’. For the unversed actor Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor’s daughter Shanaya Kapoor is gearing up for her acting debut in Mohanlal’s ‘Vrushabha’.
Meanwhile, Karan Johar’s last directorial was ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles.
