"Please Wear Your...": Kareena Kapoor Says "Six-Pack Abs" Don't Guarantee "Stardom"
Kareena Kapoor feels that if an actor is talented and can connect with the viewers through their performance, then "stardom" will eventually follow.
2023 has proved that if the content is good, the audience will eventually come to the theatres to watch it. Small-budget films like 'Zara Hatke Zara Bachke' and '12th Fail' have emerged as breakout successes in 2023, and it gives hope to the young actors, who are not able to star in big-budget films. Even, Kareena Kapoor Khan, who made her OTT debut this year with Sujoy Ghosh's 'Jaane Jaan', feels that if an actor is talented and can connect with the viewers through their performance, then "stardom" will eventually follow.
She also shared how a few people questioned her decision to do 'Jaane Jaan'.
While speaking on Film Companion's Actors Roundtable 2023, Kareena said, "If you are great, talented, and people have liked you, connected with you, stardom will follow. It is not like, ‘Oh he has got six-pack abs, he is looking so hot, he is a big star.’ Arree please yaar! Sometimes, I feel like telling those actors, ‘Please wear your T-shirt first. I can’t even look at you.'”
Kareena Kapoor also said that times have changed since when her grandfather Raj Kapoor, uncle Rishi Kapoor, and father Randhir Kapoor were actively working in the industry.
“Now, if you are a good actor, you are going to survive a long time,” said Kareena.
For the unversed, Kareena Kapoor was last seen in Netflix's 'Jaane Jaan', alongside Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma. In the film, the actress played the role of a single mother, Maya.
“Someone who saw Jaane Jaan was like, ‘Arre why did you do such a dark film?’ People have come up to me and said, ‘We are used to seeing you…’ They want that. I am just like, ‘I don’t even want to talk to you. Why did you even watch it," said Kareena.
"They just believe that this is her image. They have built this image about me that she has to do certain kinds of roles," she added.
On the work front, Kareena will next be seen in the role of a detective in Hansal Mehta’s 'The Buckingham Murders', which also starring Ash Tandon, Ranveer Brar, and Keith Allen.
She also has Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again and 'The Crew' in the pipeline.
