Nawazuddin Siddiqui is being called out for his comments on depression.

Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is currently awaiting the release of his new Hindi movie titled 'Jogira Sara Ra Ra' which also stars Neha Sharma. However, ahead of the release, the 'Gangs of Wasseypur' actor is making news for all the wrong reasons. In an interview with Mashable India, the actor gave his take on mental health issues, and at one point, he even said that "depression is an urban concept."

Speaking to Mashable India, the actor said: "I come from a place where, if I would tell my father that I am feeling depressed, he would give me one tight slap. Depression wahan (village) nahi tha, kisi ko bhi nahi hota wahan depression, sab khush hai."

"Ye shehron me aake hoti hai, yahan par har aadmi apne chhote emotions ko bhi bahut glorify karta hai. If you ask a labourer, or someone who is sleeping on the footpath, then what is depression? When it rains, they dance even then, usko depression nahi pata hota. Jab aapke pass paisa aa jata hai toh iss tareeke ki beemariyan aati jaati hai," he added.

However, these comments of Nawazuddin Siddiqui have not gone done well with the netizens and there are plenty of reactions on social media.

Here are some of the reactions:

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is not the first celebrity to talk about mental health issues in this manner. Earlier, India's World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev had said that he cannot understand "American words like depression and pressure."

As per the World Health Organisation (WHO) data, nearly 280 million people around the world have depression, reported Times Now.

75 per cent of people in low and middle-income countries don't receive treatment for mental disorders due to insufficient funding of mental health care, stated the same WHO report.
