'Laapataa Ladies' Named India's Official Entry For Oscars 2025
'Laapataa Ladies' is India's official entry for Oscars 2025. The film will enter under Foreign Film Category.
'Laapataa Ladies', directed by Kiran Rao, has been named as India's official entry for Oscars 2025. The pick was announced by Film Federation of India Selection Committee Chairman Jahnu Barua. In the latest entertainment news, 'Laapataa Ladies', produced by Aamir Khan Productions, will now be entering the Foreign Film category, but it needs to be seen whether the film manages to be shortlisted by the Academy. 'Laapataa Ladies' was among the 29 entries that were considered by the Film Federation of India. As per several reports, out of these 29 films, 12 were from Hindi language, 6 from Tamil language and 4 from Malayalam language.
A 13-member jury finally selected 'Laapataa Ladies' as India's official entry for Oscars 2025.
As per India Today, Ranbir Kapoor's 'Animal', directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, was among the 29 films that were considered by the Film Federation of India.
The other Hindi films that were considered were Kartik Aaryan's 'Chandu Champion', Prabhas' 'Kalki 2898 AD', Rajkummar Rao's 'Srikanth' and Vicky Kaushal's 'Sam Bahadur'.
Earlier, Kiran Rao had said that it is her long-cherished dream to see her movie representing the country at the Oscar stage.
“My dream would be fulfilled if it was, if it would go (to Oscars). But it's a process, and I'm hoping it'll (Laapataa Ladies) be considered. I'm sure the best film will go, whoever they choose in the scheme of things,” Kiran Rao had told PTI.
For the unversed, 'Laapataa Ladies' is a story about two brides in rural India in 2021, who get accidently swapped during a train journey.
The Hindi film is produced by Kiran Rao's Kindling Productions and Aamir Khan Productions. The movie that released in cinemas in March 2024, stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta and Sparsh Shrivastav in the lead roles alongside Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam and Geeta Aggarwal Sharma.
