“Not Present At...”: Parineeti Chopra Says Skipping Bollywood Parties Cost Her Acting Jobs
Parineeti Chopra has opened about the lack of opportunities and wrong career decisions, which eventually kept her away from right roles and projects.
Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra is the talk of the town as her performance in Imtiaz Ali's ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ is winning her immense praise from fans and critics alike. In the new Netflix movie, Parineeti Chopra is playing the role of late singer Amarjot Kaur. Amid all the appreciation she’s receiving, Parineeti Chopra has opened about the lack of opportunities and wrong career decisions, which eventually kept her away from right roles and projects. In a new interaction with Bollywood Hungama, she also revealed how not attending Bollywood parties impacted her career.
“I don’t go to dinners and lunches or attend parties where work opportunities are created in Bollywood or those roles are discussed. I want directors and producers to call me for my work because I am willing to work hard. I won a National Award for Ishaqzaade 10 years ago. I am still the same actor,” she told Bollywood Hungama.
Speaking about the system of lobbying in Bollywood, Parineeti Chopra said, “Getting work in Bollywood doesn’t only depend on merit or acting, you have to be in cliques and camps to get roles. I am not present at the right place at the right time. I am not getting papped every day.”
Parineeti Chopra, who is the cousin of Priyanka Chopra Jonas, also admitted, “My PR game sucks”.
“I want to be the voice for actors who aren’t parts of cliques and camps. I hope we break this system of lobbying in Bollywood because I want equal opportunities and work. I may have done the wrong films, but I am the same actor who started 10 years ago and is in search of the right platform,” she said.
The actress also revealed that during the shoot of ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, she did not take up any other project, and didn't make enough public appearances.
Apart from Parineeti Chopra, ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ also starred Diljit Dosanjh in the lead role. He essayed the role of slain Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila, who is still known as the Elvis Presley of Punjab.
Both Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh are winning praise for their powerful performances in the new Netflix movie, which was released on April 12. The film’s music has been composed by AR Rahman.
Recently, Parineeti Chopra had taken to Instagram to say, “Parineeti is back. These words are ringing loud. Hadn’t thought of this. Yes, I am back, and not going anywhere.”
Over the years, Parineeti has starred in movies like ‘Ishaqzaade’, ‘Ladies vs Ricky Bahl’, ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’, ‘Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar’, and ‘Uunchai’, among others.
