Raksha Bandhan, one of the most popular Hindu festivals, is an annual occasion celebrated throughout the nation to commemorate the special bond between sisters and brothers. This year, the auspicious day was celebrated on August 30. Like all of us, several celebrities also celebrated the occasion with great fervour. On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan 2023, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tied rakhi to megastar Amitabh Bachchan. Recently, Mamata Banerjee visited the residence of Big B and after tying rakhi, Mamata Banerjee said that Amitabh Bachchan is “Bharat Ratna” for her.

For the unversed, Bharat Ratna is the highest civilian honour in India.

"Today, Hon'ble CM Smt @MamataOfficial met Mr. @SrBachchan and Mrs. Jaya Bachchan along with their family at their residence in Mumbai. She wholeheartedly thanked them for their precious time and wished them luck in all their future endeavours. Few glimpses from the visit," the official handle of All India Trinamool Congress tweeted.

“Amit ji is our Bharat Ratna. His family has also made a big contribution to the film industry. Today I tied rakhi to Amit ji. Today is a big day,” Mamata Banerjee said, as reported by news agency PTI.

Last year in December, Amitabh Bachchan had attended the inaugural function Kolkata International Film Festival. At the event, which was attended by Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji and Jaya Bachchan as well, Mamata Banerjee had said that Amitabh Bachchan should be accorded the country's highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna for his contribution to Indian cinema.

Talking about Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal CM is currently in Mumbai to attend the two-day meeting of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) on August 31 and September 1.

Speaking of Amitabh Bachchan, the actor will next be seen in 'Ganapath: Part 1' alongside Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon.

He also has Nag Ashwin's 'Kalki 2898 AD' in the pipeline starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani and Kamal Hassan.
