Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has filed a complaint with Mumbai Police’s Cyber Crime Cell after a deepfake video of him promoting political views went viral on social media. For the unversed, the viral clip started doing the rounds following the 'Gully Boy' actor's visit to Varanasi, where he walked the ramp for the fashion designer Manish Malhotra, alongside Kriti Sanon, at Namo Ghat.
"Yes, we have filed the police complaint and FIR has been lodged against the handle that was promoting the AI-generated deepfake video of Mr Ranveer Singh," Ranveer Singh's spokesperson told news agency ANI.
The viral clip has an AI-generated Ranveer Singh criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi over unemployment and inflation in the country.
Ranveer Singh had recently also addressed the video on his X account, cautioning his followers about the dangers of deepfakes.
"Deepfake se bacho dostonnnn," Ranveer Singh wrote on X.

Earlier, a similar incident happened with superstar Aamir Khan, whose deepfake video went viral in which he was seen promoting a political party ahead of Lok Sabha 2024 polls.
Aamir Khan's team then clarified that the actor has never endorsed any political party in his career.
“We want to clarify that Aamir Khan has never endorsed any political party throughout his 35-year career. He has dedicated his efforts to raising public awareness through Election Commission public awareness campaigns for many past elections. We are alarmed by the recent viral video alleging that Aamir Khan is promoting a particular political party. He would like to clarify that this is a fake video and totally untrue," Aamir Khan's spokesperson was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
On the work front, Ranveer Singh will next be seen in Rohit Shetty's 'Singham Again', alongside Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor and Tiger Shroff.
Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone are also expecting their first child together.
