Ranbir Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor and Triptii Dimri’s ‘Animal’ turned out to be one of the most successful movies of 2023. Despite being severely criticized for glorifying toxic masculinity and misogyny, the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial collected more than Rs 500 crore at the domestic box office. It is important to note that ‘Animal’ minted money while facing competition from Vicky Kaushal’s Hindi movie ‘Sam Bahadur’, which released alongside the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial on December 1, 2023.

After its box office success, ‘Animal’ recently landed on Netflix. And the debate around ‘Animal’, which seemed to have died down after the release of ‘Dunki’ and ‘Salaar’, started again on social media. Previously, iconic lyricist Javed Akhtar had called such films dangerous.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga recently reacted to Javed Akhtar’s criticism of ‘Animal’, urging the veteran lyricist to monitor his son Farhan Akhtar’s work before pointing fingers at his film.

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Sandeep Reddy Vanga said, “It is very clear that he did not see the film. It’s very clear in that comment that he did not see the entire film. Agar koi picture bina dekhe baat karta hai toh unke baare mein kya baat karein?”

He further said, “Vo jo bhi ho critic ho, best writer ho in the world… he is talking about my work only na so obviously you feel bad because it is very clear that he has not seen the film and not only about him, anybody who is throwing stones on an art piece, why don’t they check their surroundings first?”

The Indian director continued, “For example, if any comments are coming from actors like Nithya Menen or any actors which have great respect who really believe the art… main sincerely le leta hoon. But when it comes to Javed ji, hum log bhi discuss kiye the… didn’t he tell the same thing to Farhan Akhtar when he was producing Mirzapur?”

“Pura duniya bhar mein jitna gaaliyan haine vo Mirzapur ek show mein hain. Aur main pura show bhi nahi dekha hoon… pura dekha nahi. I have seen some 15 scenes, YouTube pe aata haine do do minute ka… vo dekh ke laga. Aur vo cheez jab Telugu mein translate hua hai…dubbing agar vo dekhoge na toh then you will really feel like puking. If you really understand the difference from Hindi to Telugu dialogue. Ye log bol rahe haine mere ko dekh ke ki I felt like throwing up… ye sab natak hai toh udhar karo naa jaake,” he added.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga further questioned Javed Akhar, “Why is he not checking his son’s work?”

For the unversed, Javed Akhtar had said about Animal, “If there’s a film in which a man asks a woman to lick his shoe or if a man says it’s okay to slap a woman… and the film is a super hit, that’s dangerous.”

In the controversial scene, Ranbir’s character was seen asking Triptii Dimri’s character Zoya to lick his shoe to prove his love after she was revealed as a mole.
