Ameesha Patel has shared that Sanjay Leela Bhansali asked her to "retire" after 2001.

Actress Ameesha Patel is currently celebrating the success of 'Gadar 2', which has already made more than Rs 400 crore at the domestic box office. In the latest entertainment news, Ameesha Patel has recalled enjoying similar success in 2001 after the release of the first 'Gadar' film. For the uninitiated, the first 'Gadar' had released shortly after Ameesha Patel's debut with Hrithik Roshan-starrer 'Kaho Na Pyaar Hai'.

Both the films were massive hits. In the latest Hindi movie news, Ameesha Patel has revealed that after 'Gadar' in 2001, she got a letter from director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who complimented her work.

“After watching Gadar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali wrote a really beautiful letter, a complimentary letter to me, and when I had a meeting with him, he said ‘Ameesha, you should retire now.’ I was like ‘why?’ I didn’t understand,” she told Bollywood Hungama.

“He said, ‘Because you have already achieved in two films which most people don’t achieve in their entire career. Once in a lifetime (films like) Mughal-e-Azam, Mother India, Pakeezah, Sholay get made, you had it in your second film, so what next," she added.

In a previous chat with another media portal ETimes, Ameesha Patel had shared that she was offered leading parts in Shah Rukh Khan’s 'Chalte Chalte', Salman Khan’s Tere Naam' and Sanjay Dutt’s 'Munnabhai MBBS', but she had to turn down these roles.

“There were lots of films I couldn’t do. I turned them down because of date issues so I couldn’t regret it,” she said.

Talking about 'Gadar 2', even a working Tuesday couldn’t slow down Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer. The new Hindi movie, also starring Utkarsh Sharma, collected Rs 12.10 crore at the box office on Tuesday.

With the latest box office collection, the new Bollywood film has entered the Rs 400 crore club.

‘Gadar 2’ is the sequel to the 2001 hit ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, which was also directed by Anil Sharma. It was a blockbuster hit in 2001, when it clashed against the acclaimed hit ‘Lagaan’, which starred Aamir Khan. It finished with Rs 130 crore at the global box office.

‘Gadar 2’ also stars Manish Wadhwa, Gaurav Chopra, Simrat Kaur, Luv Sinha, Rakesh Bedi and Dolly Bindra. The popular songs from the 2001 original, ‘Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava’ and ‘Main Nikla Gaddi Leke’ have been recreated for ‘Gadar 2’.
