Shah Rukh Khan made a comeback in 2023 with ‘Pathaan’ after his 2018 release ‘Zero’ tanked at the box office. ‘Pathaan’, co-starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, minted Rs 543.09 crore across all languages in India and became the highest-grossing Hindi movie of all time. However, ‘Pathaan’ doesn’t hold this record anymore. Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’ managed to go past ‘Pathaan’. But Shah Rukh Khan proved that he is the undisputed king of the Indian box office as his latest release, ‘Jawan’, dethroned ‘Gadar 2’ within 24 hours, claiming the top spot.

‘Jawan’, which released on September 7, wreaked havoc in cinemas and shattered all possible box office records. The movie, directed by Atlee, is now making waves digitally. The film, co-starring Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi, released on Netflix on the occasion of Shah Rukh Khan’s birthday (November 2).

As per industry tracker Sacnilk, ‘Jawan’ debuted on Netflix with a staggering viewership. The Hindi version of the action thriller, which featured Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Dutt in special appearances, scored 14.9 million viewing hours from 5.2 million views during its opening weekend of November 2 to November 5.

As per Box Office Worldwide, ‘Jawan’ broke the record of ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’. The film, starring Alia Bhatt in the lead role, with 13.8 million viewing hours, was the biggest Indian film on Netflix.

‘Jawan’ also became the fourth most viewed non-English movie worldwide on Netflix during the week of October 30 - November 5. The movie is trending in the ‘top 10’ category in 18 countries, including number 1 in India, Sri Lanka, the UAE, and eight other countries.

The Tamil and Telugu versions of ‘Jawan’ also made it to the top 10 most-watched films in India during the same week. However, the viewership numbers for both versions were not revealed by Netflix. In India, the Hindi version of the Atlee directorial easily topped the viewership chart, followed by the Telugu movie ‘Mad’.

The film, produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, also stars Sanya Malhotra, Sunil Grover, Priyamani, Ridhi Dogra, Ashlesha Thakur, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Girija Oak, Lehar Khan and Aaliyah Qureishi.
