Rana Daggubati has apologised to Sonam Kapoor, after he took a veiled dig at the Bollywood actress.

'King of Kotha' starring Dulquer Salmaan is one of the most-anticipated Indian films of 2023. Ahead of the premiere of the movie, the core team of the film recently visited Hyderabad for a pre-release event, and the occasion was also graced by 'Baahubali' star Rana Daggubati. Even Telugu superstar Nani attended the event. In the latest entertainment, Rana Daggubati's speech during the event has become a topic of hot debate as in his address, he ended up taking a veiled dig at a Bollywood actress while praising Dulquer Salmaan.

Rana Daggubati did not mention the name of the actress, but he referred to her as "a big Hindi cinema heroine." However, netizens did not waste any time, and they ended up making out that Rana Daggubati was speaking about Sonam Kapoor, who had shared the screen with Dulquer Salmaan in the 2019 film 'The Zoya Factor'.

Following the widespread trolling of Sonam Kapoor, Rana Daggubati has now stepped forward to apologise, saying his "words were misinterpreted."

Taking to Twitter, Rana Daggubati said: " “I am genuinely troubled by the negativity that has been aimed at Sonam due to my comments, that are totally untrue and were meant entirely in a light-hearted manner. As friends, we often exchange playful banter, and I deeply regret that my words have been misinterpreted."

"I take this opportunity to express my heartfelt apologies to Sonam and Dulquer, both of whom I hold in great esteem. I hope this clarification puts an end to any speculation and misunderstanding. Thank you for your understanding," he added.

Now, it looks like even Sonam Kapoor has reacted to the ongoing controversy. She did not mention or allude to what has transpired over the last couple of days. She has shared a quote by former First Lady of the United States, Eleanor Roosevelt.

“Just a little something I’d like some people to know… especially when discussing things about people that are made up. Small minds discuss people; average minds discuss events, great minds discuss ideas," she wrote.

As per India Today, in his speech, Rana had said: "Back when we were both studying acting, Dulquer was my junior. We formed a friendship during those times. He is a very polite person. Years later, he was doing a Hindi film. I won’t mention the film and the producers were my friends. Since the shooting was happening closer to my house, I went to the sets to see them. He was at a corner speaking to a spot boy, who was from Kerala. A big Hindi cinema heroine was talking to her husband over the phone. It was in between takes. If it was anything urgent, it made sense, but they were shopping over the phone."

"Dulquer was patient. But, she forgot her lines and was distracted. If I had a bottle in my hand, I would have crushed it. But, Dulquer remained calm and gave as many takes as he was asked. He put up with the pranks played on him. I sat with the producers later and gave them an earful,” he added.

Talking about 'King Of Kotha', the movie is a period gangster film and it will be releasing later this month.
