'Veere Di Wedding' is one of the most loved Indian movies when it comes to films telling the story of adult female friendships. The Rhea Kapoor and Ektaa Kapoor-backed film had released in 2018, and it starred Kareena Kapoor, Swara Bhasker, Sonam Kapoor, and Shikha Talsania in the lead roles. After the 2018 Bollywood film’s success, a new movie titled ‘Jee Le Zaraa’ focusing on female friendships was announced with Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles. However, it was recently announced that Priyanka Chopra had to quit the project.
While the future of ‘Jee Le Zaraa’ remains unclear now, we have a piece of good news for you in case you are waiting to see another movie on female friendships. As per a report in Pinkvilla, a sequel of ‘Veere Di Wedding’ is in the works and it might go on floors next year.
The report also stated that the idea and concept for the sequel has been finalised.
“Veere Di Wedding is a very special project for the makers, and they have already set the ball rolling for the sequel. So, Veere Di Wedding 2 is definitely being made, and the idea and concept has already been locked," Pinkvilla quoted a source as saying.
"However, the script is still being written, and the final draft should be ready in a few months. Once that is done, they will start looking at the casting and other logistics. The movie will roll next year," the source added.
'Veere Di Wedding' was directed by Shashanka Ghosh and the movie was a massive success in 2018 as it collected more than Rs 100 crore worldwide. After the movie's success, producer Rhea Kapoor had said that she did not expect the movie to do such big numbers.
In 2020, Rhea Kapoor had confirmed that a sequel would definitely come.
“I think it’s going to happen actually. It might happen sooner than I thought it would happen. But things look good. I am excited,” she had said during an interactive session with fans on Instagram.
Speaking to Pinkvilla about the movie's success, Rhea Kapoor in 2022 had said, "When that happened I felt so good, because I was like people underestimate the strength of the female audience, who are very loyal. They watch films over and over again. So that’s when I made up my mind that I am not going to rush into anything that’s predictable."
"I am going to go and do things the way I have always done them, but the one thing that I will do is I will justify the potential strength of this audience," she added.
The film revolves around four female friends (played by Sonam, Kareena, Swara, and Shikha) and the various ups and downs in their lives. It tells the story of the trials of four women through several stages of life including marriage and inability to commit in a relationship among others.
Apart from the leading ladies, the film also starred Sumeet Vyas, Vishwas Kini, Neena Gupta, and Vivek Mushran in pivotal roles.
