Why Karan Johar Didn't Ask Shah Rukh Khan For Cameo In 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani'
Karan Johar revealed why he didn't approach Shah Rukh Khan for a cameo in 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani'.
Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan's friendship has seen it all! Karan Johar's first break as a director was given by SRK, and their film 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' turned 25 years old on Monday. Over the years, they have worked together on several occasions and in the latest entertainment news, Karan Johar has admitted that he cannot overuse the friend card to get Shah Rukh Khan to do cameos for him without any question. Speaking to Pinkvilla, Karan Johar explained why he was not able to approach SRK for another cameo in 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani'.
When asked whether he was tempted to ask SRK for a cameo in 'RRKPK', Karan Johar said, "Very. The entire AD team will say that in Tum Kya Mile, they said that the best moment would be if you track away from Alia and Ranveer, and just go to Shah Rukh and Kajol singing the same song. They look at them, and Alia realises that this is pure love, because (Shah Rukh and Kajol) represent love. I said, ‘With what kind of guts do I ask Shah Rukh to not only do a cameo, but to go to Kashmir, and get into hair and costume’.”
"Shah Rukh never says no to me. I have to pick and choose what I ask for. I remember when, as a team, we went to him to ask him to play that massive, impactful cameo in Brahmastra. At the end of the day, he looked at us and said, ‘It’s Karan, I can never say no’. I know that I can’t take that empowered feeling for granted and keep going back," he added.
During the interview, Karan Johar also said that Shah Rukh Khan gave him nearly 12-14 days for 'Brahmastra: Part One Shiva', and did not charge a penny.
"He’s king-hearted as well,” Karan concluded.
For the unversed, SRK starred as a scientist in Brahmastra, which was directed by Ayan Mukerji. The movie starred Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in leading roles.
Talking about 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani', the film starred Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, and Churni Ganguly.
Speaking of SRK, the actor made a grand comeback in 2023 with 'Pathaan' and 'Jawan', both grossing a combined total of nearly Rs 2,200 crore worldwide.
