"Wo Bhi Nahi...": Priyanka Chopra Says She Couldn't Ask For Pay Parity in India

Priyanka Chopra Jonas is currently awaiting the release of her show 'Citadel' which will be premiering on Amazon Prime Video on April 28. Ahead of the release, the actress made news by revealing that this is the first time that she has gotten pay parity in her career. In a new interview, she has revealed that she never asked for pay parity in India. "Of course. I mean, I never asked for parity, are you kidding me? I only asked for a little bit more, woh bhi nahi milta tha. So, I just gave up the fight," Priyanka Chopra said, while speaking to Anupama Chopra for Film Companion.
The 'Don' actress also revealed that she did not think that she would end up receiving pay parity while working for 'Citadel'.
“I also didn’t expect it, when my agents told me, ‘You’re playing a co-lead, let us go and talk to Amazon about getting you parity’,” said Priyanka Chopra.
“I was like, ‘Okay, you can try, but it’s never going to happen’. Even I didn’t believe it. Because for so many years, I fought that fight, and I had that conversation," she added.
While talking about she felt after bagging a role opposite Richard Madden in 'Citadel', Priyanka Chopra said: "I remember I was so shocked that day when I went back, I popped champagne. My family was celebrating. It’s momentous. I’ve had a 22-year career, but one step at a time, one win at a time.”
'Citadel' also stars Lesley Manville, Osy Ikhile, Ashleigh Cummings, Roland Møller, and Caoilinn Springall.
The first two episodes of the show will drop on Prime Video on April 28, and after this, one episode will drop each week till May 26.
For the unversed, Priyanka Chopra is leading the American version of Citadel while actors Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu will be seen in the Indian segment of the 'Citadel' universe.
