This Indian Movie Makes It To Variety's '100 Greatest Movies Of All Time' List, 'Psycho', 'The Godfather' Among Toppers
Variety released it’s '100 Greatest Movies Of All Time' list, and only one Indian movie managed to make it. The list is topped by movies like ‘Pschyo’ and ‘The Godfather’
Satyajit Ray-directorial 'Pather Panchali' has been featured in Variety's 100 Greatest Movies Of All Time list and is the only Indian movie on the list. The Bengali film is positioned at the 55th spot on the list. Variety in its description for the movie said: "Pather Panchali is both a loving portrait of a mostly matriarchal upbringing and an awe-inspiring vision of rural life, as reflected through the impressionable eyes of its young protagonist."
"The film’s captivating images include chasing after a passing train and playing in a monsoon, which add up to a pure and soul-nourishing experience," it added.
Variety's list features the films like ' The Shining, 'Kramer vs Kramer', 'Parasite', 'The Dark Knight', '12 Years A Slave', 'Titanic', 'Moonlight', 'Annie Hall', 'The Silence of the Lambs', 'The Godfather Part II', 'All About Eve', 'Pulp Fiction', 'Citizen Kane', 'The Godfather', and 'Psycho'.
On the list, 'Psycho' is at the top spot, while 'The Godfather' is at third spot.
'Pulp Fiction' is on the fifth position while 'Goodfellas' is on the 12th spot. 'Saving Private Ryan' is on the 10th spot while 'Titanic' is on the 45th spot.
'Pather Panchali' is a 1955 Indian Bengali-language drama film written and directed by Satyajit Ray.
The movie was an adaptation of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay's 1929 Bengali novel of the same name, and marked Ray's directorial debut.
The film starred Subir Banerjee, Kanu Banerjee, Karuna Banerjee, Uma Dasgupta, Pinaki Sengupta, Chunibala Devi. The movie 'Pather Panchali' depicted the childhood travails of the protagonist Apu and his elder sister Durga amidst the harsh village life of their poor family.
