‘Barbenheimer’ Box Office Report: On the first Monday, 'Oppenheimer' crossed the Rs 50 crore mark in India, while 'Barbie' outperformed the Christopher Nolan directorial globally.
The craze around Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ and Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ continues. It was a great weekend at the movies as both the new Hollywood films pulled people to the cinema halls in large numbers. While ‘Oppenheimer’ outperformed ‘Barbie’ in India, the Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-starrer beat the new Hollywood movie globally. The biographical drama ‘Oppenheimer’, headlined by Cillian Murphy, has crossed the Rs 50 crore mark in India within a mere four days of its release. Meanwhile, ‘Barbie’ has crossed the Rs 20 crore mark on its fourth day in cinemas.
‘Oppenheimer’, the biopic chronicling the life of renowned nuclear physicist J Robert Oppenheimer, earned an approximate Rs 55.75 crore nett in four days since its release. The film collected Rs 14.50 crore on its first day, followed by Rs 17 crore on Day 2 and Rs 17.25 crore on Sunday in India.
The Christopher Nolan directorial after witnessing spectacular numbers at the box office over the first weekend of its release, witnessed a dip on Monday in India.
According to a Sacnilk report, the film entered the Rs 50 crore club in India but only minted Rs 7 crore on day four of its release. Currently, the total earnings of Oppenheimer stand at Rs 55.75 crore.
Meanwhile, ‘Barbie’ earned approximately Rs 21.15 crore within its first four days in India. The Margot Robbie-starrer fantasy comedy earned Rs 5 crore on Friday, Rs 6.5 crore on Saturday and Rs 7.15 crore on Sunday. It witnessed a dip on Monday, collecting only Rs 2.50 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.
However, the dynamics shifted significantly on the global stage. ‘Barbie’ has been beating ‘Oppenheimer’ in international markets.
The top 10 markets for ‘Oppenheimer’ include North America with USD 82.40 million, followed by the UK (USD 14 million), India (USD 7.1 million), France (USD 7 million), Germany (USD 6.6 million), Australia (USD 6.4 million), Mexico (USD 4.6 million), Saudi Arabia (USD 4 million) and Spain (USD 3.8 million).
Barbie has performed remarkably well in its top 10 markets, with North America leading the pack at USD 162 million. The UK follows closely with USD 22.9 million while Mexico and Brazil secured figures of USD 22.3 million and USD 15.9 million, respectively.
Notably, Australia contributed USD 14.6 million to the film's successful run while Spain and France saw solid performances at USD 9.9 million and USD 9.8 million, respectively.
China and Italy recorded similar earnings of Rs 8.2 million, and Germany rounded up the list with USD 7.2 million.
The combined worldwide gross box office earnings of ‘Barbenheimer’ have reached USD 524.40 million, as per Sacnilk.
The Christopher Nolan directorial revolves around J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), who famously led the Manhattan Project — the effort to create an atomic bomb during World War II.
The new Hollywood movie has a star-studded cast, including Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Gary Oldman, Robert Downey Jr, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, and Michael Angarano among others.
