Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' Nears Rs 100 Crore Mark, 'Barbie' Stands At Rs 35 Crore In India
‘Barbenheimer’ Box Office Report: During its second weekend, ‘Barbie’ stood at Rs 35 crore, while 'Oppenheimer' outperformed it and inched closer to the Rs 100 crore mark in India.
It’s a ‘Barbenheimer’ world and we are just living in it. Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ and Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ continue to rule the box office. The new Hollywood movies, which released on July 21, pulled people to the theatres in large numbers. The Greta Gerwig directorial, which has been beating ‘Oppenheimer’ globally, also saw people turning up in pink outfits to watch the movie. Despite tough competition from Karan Johar’s ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Barbie’ managed to rake in the moolah. ‘Oppenheimer, during its second weekend, inched closer to crossing the Rs 100 crore mark in India.
According to a report by industry tracker Sacnilk, ‘Oppenheimer’ collected Rs 7.25 crore on Sunday, similar to what it had earned on Saturday. The new Hollywood movie, starring Cillian Murphy as J Robert Oppenheimer, now stands at Rs 92 crore nett.
The film is also making headlines after it was criticised by a section of social media users for a sex scene in which Cillian Murphy reads out a Sanskrit quote from Bhagavad Gita.
On the other hand, ‘Barbie’ received an average response in India. According to a report by Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 3.25 crore on Sunday and now stands at Rs 35.43 crore nett in India.
Meanwhile, Tom Cruise-starrer ‘Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1’ entered the Rs 100 crore club at the Indian box office on Sunday.
Coming back to ‘Oppenheimer’, the Christopher Nolan directorial revolves around J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), who famously led the Manhattan Project — the effort to create an atomic bomb during World War II.
The new Hollywood movie has a star-studded cast, including Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Gary Oldman, Robert Downey Jr, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, and Michael Angarano among others.
Talking about 'Barbie', the movie stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Emma Mackey, and Will Ferrell.
In the new Hollywood movie, Margot Robbie plays the titular character while Ryan Gosling and Simu Liu feature as the Ken dolls.
