'Gadar 2' Crosses Rs 130 Crore Mark In 3 Days; Akshay Kumar's 'OMG 2' Witnesses Rise In Collections
Box-office report: 'Gadar 2' and 'OMG 2' continue to bring in the moolah, and both movies are on their way to emerge as a massive success.
It is a good time for box office clashes globally. 'Oppenheimer' and 'Barbie' which released in the theatres on July 21, turned out to be huge successes. India had its own 'Barbenheimer' as 'Gadar 2' and 'OMG 2' hit the theatres on August 11, and as of now, it looks like, both movies are on their way to be termed as box-office blockbusters.
Talking about 'Gadar 2' starring Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma, the new Hindi movie collected a whopping Rs 52 crore on Sunday, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk. This is the highest day collection for 'Gadar 2' so far after the Anil Sharma-directorial collected Rs 40 crore and Rs 43 crore on Friday and Saturday respectively.
The total three-day collection of 'Gadar 2' now stands at Rs 135 crore nett, and it is all set to breach the Rs 200 crore mark by Tuesday (August 15, Independence Day).
On the other hand, Akshay Kumar, Yami Gautam and Pankaj Tripathi-starrer 'OMG 2' brought in Rs 17.50 crore on Sunday, taking the three-day total to Rs 43.5 crore. On the opening day, 'OMG 2' collected Rs 10.26 crore while on Saturday, it brought in Rs 15.3 crore.
For the unversed, the highest weekend collection of 2023 belongs to Shah Rukh Khan as his 'Pathaan' had collected Rs 161 crore. In its five-day extended weekend, 'Pathaan' had earned Rs 271 crore, and it needs to be seen whether 'Gadar 2' manages to break this record.
'Gadar 2' has already emerged as Sunny Deol's biggest hit in his 40-year career.
The 65-year-old had started out his career with 'Betaab' in 1983 and his 2001-film 'Gadar' was earlier his highest-earning blockbuster.
Earlier, talking about the performance of 'Gadar 2', Sunny Deol had said: "I am indeed very happy. When we did the second part of Gadar, we never knew it would be so loved by the audience. Two whole generations have gone by since we did the first Gadar. And still, people are as excited as they were the first time. I am amazed and very, very happy. We need some hits to keep the film industry on its feet.”
On the other hand, Akshay Kumar had also visited a theatre to see the audience reaction to his 'OMG 2'.
Taking a dig at Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for giving an 'A' certificate to 'OMG 2', Akshay Kumar had said: “Kaisi lagi aap logo ko movie? Pehli adult film hai jo teenagers ke liye bani hai. Actually yeh sab schools mein dikhani chahiye, lekin aap sab entertain huye nah? Bahut acha laga, bahut-bahut shukriya aap log aye dekhne."
