'Jawan' Or 'Gadar 2', Who Will Go Past 'Pathaan' First To Become Highest-Grossing Hindi Movie?
Shah Rukh Khan’s comeback film ‘Pathaan’, co-starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, has earned Rs 524.23 crore in Hindi.
Shah Rukh Khan’s 2018 movie ‘Zero’ tanked at the box office. Following the box office failure of his film, co-starring Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, SRK went on a hiatus, appearing only in cameo roles. Naturally, the anticipation for his comeback film ‘Pathaan’, which was released in January 2023, was at an all-time high. And King Khan did not disappoint. He made a strong comeback with his action-packed entertainer, also starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, which became the highest-grossing Hindi movie of all time.
One thought that this record won’t break anytime soon, but fast forward nine months, we have two contenders that will likely surpass 'Pathaan' to become the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.
The Hindi collection of ‘Pathaan' stands at Rs 524.23 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel's 'Gadar 2' and Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan' are looking to go past 'Pathaan', and it remains to be seen who breaks the record first.
As per industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Gadar 2' which released on August 11, collected Rs 0.31 crore on Tuesday (September 26), taking the total collection to Rs 524.10 crore.
On the other hand, 'Jawan' which also stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani and Sunil Grover, added Rs 4.5 crore more to its tally on Tuesday, taking the total Hindi collection to Rs 515.34 crore.
With the speed at which both the Hindi movies are earning money, it looks like 'Jawan' might break the record of 'Pathaan' first.
The earnings of 'Jawan' and 'Gadar 2' might witness a further dip starting this Thursday as new releases in the form of 'The Vaccine War' and 'Fukrey 3' will end up taking most of the screens in theatres across India.
Talking about 'Gadar 2', the movie has been written by Shaktimaan Talwar. Besides Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma, the movie also stars Rakesh Bedi, Simrat Kaur and Manish Wadhwa among others. Set in the backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war, the film follows the story of Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) as he goes to Pakistan to save his son (Utkarsh Sharma) from captivity.
On the other hand, 'Jawan' which has been directed by Atlee, also features cameos by Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Dutt.
SRK will next be seen in 'Dunki', directed by Rajkumar Hirani. It will be releasing on December 22, 2023, and the movie will be going up against Prabhas' 'Salaar' at the box office.
