Salaar vs Dunki
The box office battle between Prabhas’ ‘Salaar’ and Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’ continues to get interesting by the minute.

Will slow and steady eventually win the race? Shah Rukh Khan's ‘Dunki’ and Prabhas’ ‘Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’ released in theatres last week. And it was the latter that dominated the box office initially. However, now it seems like that the Prashanth Neel directorial is losing steam at the box office, while Rajkumar Hirani and SRK's maiden collaboration, ‘Dunki’, continues to remain stable. ‘Dunki’ also stars Taapsee Pannu and Boman Irani. The new Hindi film features Vicky Kaushal as well, and he has received immense praise for his brief yet impactful role.

‘Salaar: Part One – Ceasefire’, which also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan and Shriya Reddy, started off its box office journey by being a “rebel” as it made Rs 90.7 crore on the opening day of its release. However, just in a week's time, the collections have dipped by over 85 per cent in India.

On Thursday, ‘Salaar’ made just Rs 13.9 crore across all languages, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. The total domestic nett collection of the film now stands at Rs 309.3 crore. For the unversed, the film has grossed more than Rs 500 crore at the worldwide box office.

‘Salaar’ is now the seventh film of the year to pass the milestone, after ‘Pathaan’, ‘Jawan’, ‘Jailer’, ‘Leo’, ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘Animal’.

On the other hand, ‘Dunki’, which also stars Anil Grover and Vikram Kochhar, made Rs 9 crore in India on Thursday, taking the total domestic collection to Rs 161.01 crore.

Worldwide, ‘Dunki’ has gone past the Rs 300 crore mark. As with most SRK films, ‘Dunki’ is enjoying great global success.

It is expected that ‘Dunki’ would cross Rs 200 crore mark in India and Rs 350 crore mark globally by Sunday (December 31).

In a recent interaction with Connect FM Canada, Taapsee Pannu had opened up about sharing screen space with Shah Rukh Khan. The Bollywood actress shared that she was star-struck by SRK when she first started working with him. She also spoke about Shah Rukh Khan’s working style.

Taapsee said, “Just like Bachchan sir, Shah Rukh sir loves to rehearse. He likes to rehearse a scene to the point that he is one with the dialogue and it becomes a part of his muscle memory. He is a theatre actor who became a film actor. So his way is more like going about rehearsing. And he is a trained actor also so our methods are quite opposite.”

The Bollywood actress also said that she worried if she would get an opportunity like this ever again and hence wanted to make the most out of it.

Taapsee Pannu said, “Even another female actor might never get the opportunity to work in such a commercial film, which is a love story with Shah Rukh Khan. This was once in a lifetime.”

‘Dunki’ is Shah Rukh Khan’s third film of 2023 after the blockbuster hits – ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pathaan’.
