SS Rajamouli, Shabana Azmi Among Indians Invited To Join The Academy
Director SS Rajamouli and actress Shabana Azmi are among those invited to join The Academy.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has dished out invitations to 487 artists and executives from across the world to join the organisation. For the unversed, The Academy organises Oscars every year. The list includes prominent Indians like veteran actress Shabana Azmi, 'Baahubali' director SS Rajamouli, his costume designer wife Rama Rajamouli, 'Naatu Naatu' choreographer Prem Rakshith and producer Ritesh Sidhwani, among others.
The Academy has announced the new members on its website. They also stated that the selection was done, based on professional qualifications with "an ongoing commitment to representation, inclusion and equity."

Shabana Azmi has been invited to the Actors branch while SS Rajamouli and Rama Rajamouli find themselves in the director and costume designer branch.
'Naatu Naatu' choreographer, Prem Rakshit, has been invited in the production and technology branch.
Other Indian names in the list include cinematographer Ravi Varman, filmmaker Rima Das, India-born Canadian filmmaker Nisha Pahuja, who is known for the Academy Award-nominated documentary film 'To Kill a Tiger', which was backed by Priyanka Chopra, and filmmaker Hemal Trivedi.
“We are thrilled to welcome this year’s class of new members to the Academy,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang, on the official website.
“These remarkably talented artists and professionals from around the world have made a significant impact on our filmmaking community," Yang added.
The Academy also revealed that the 2024 class is made up of 44 per cent who identify as women, while 41 per cent belong to underrepresented ethnic/racial communities and 56 per cent are from 56 countries and territories outside the US.
