'Avatar: The Way Of Water' Surpasses 'Titanic' In Elite List. Will It Break All-Time Record?
'Avatar: The Way Of Water': Fair to say, James Cameron has an idea on how to make box-office monsters!
James Cameron's latest offering 'Avatar: The Way Of Water' has surpassed his another film, 'Titanic' to become the third-highest grossing movie of all-time. As per Variety, 'Avatar: The Way Of Water' has made USD 2.2433 billion globally, which is enough to overtake 'Titanic' (USD 2.2428 billion) at the worldwide box office. As a result, 'Avatar: The Way Of Water' is now only behind 'Avatar' (USD 2.92 billion) and 'Avengers: Endgame' (USD 2.7 billion).
James Cameron has three movies which have grossed more than USD 2 billion at the box office.
“James Cameron just continues to chase himself on the box office charts,” Variety quoted Shawn Robbins, the chief analyst at BoxOfficePro as saying.
“He clearly knows how to engage a modern audience," he added.
In December 2022, 'Avatar: The Way Of Water' had crossed the USD 1 billion mark at the worldwide box office and hence it was the fastest film of 2022 to achieve this feat. It was also the fastest since 2021's 'Spiderman: No Way Home' to achieve the milestone.
The story for 'Avatar: The Way Of Water' has been co-written by Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman, and Shane Salerno.
The first 'Avatar', which was released in 2009, was set in the mid-22nd century where humans are trying to colonise Pandora, a habitable moon of a gas giant in the Alpha Centauri star system, to mine the valuable mineral unobtanium.
'Avatar' which had released in 2009, had gone on to win the Oscar for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects, and was nominated for a total of nine accolades, including Best Picture.
