Oscars 2023: 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' won Best Picture.
'Everything Everywhere All At Once' turned out to be the big winner at Oscars 2023 as the movie picked up all the major awards. The movie directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert won the Best Picture accolade and with this, the award night came to a close. The movie which is about a Chinese-American laundromat owner grappling with an IST audit and inter-dimensional attackers, ended up winning seven awards, including Best Actress, Original Screenplay, and Best Director.
'Everything Everywhere All At Once' defeated 'Avatar: The Way Of Water', 'The Banshees of Inisherin', 'Elvis', 'All Quiet on the Western Front', 'The Fablemans', 'Tar', 'Top Gun: Maverick', 'Triangle of Sadness' and 'Women Talking' to pick up the win in Best Picture category.
Michelle Yeoh ended up winning Best Actress and as a result, she became just the second woman of colour to win Best Actress.
'Everything Everywhere All At Once' also became the most-awarded best picture winner since 2008's 'Slumdog Millionaire', reported Variety.
'Everything Everywhere All at Once' released in 2022 and the film was directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. The plot revolves around Evelyn Wang, a Chinese-American immigrant who, while being audited by the IRS, discovers that she must connect with parallel universe versions of herself to prevent a powerful being from destroying the multiverse. The film stars Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, Ke Huy Quan, Jenny Slate, Harry Shum Jr, James Hong, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
The 95th Academy Awards were held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Jimmy Kimmel hosted the mega awards night and this was his third time, hosting the event, after the 89th and 90th editions of the ceremony which were held in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
The nominations for Oscars 2023 were announced on January 24 by actors Riz Amed and Allison Williams.
Both 'Avatar: The Way Of Water' and 'Top Gun: Maverick' secured nominations in the Best Picture category, and hence this marked the first time that two sequels featured in one ceremony.
'All Quiet on the Western Front' secured nine nominations for this year's Oscars.
