Watch: Jimmy Kimmel Roasts Will Smith As Part Of Opening Monologue At Oscars 2023, Says "If Anyone Commits Act Of Violence..."
Oscars 2023: Jimmy Kimmel brutally trolled Will Smith as part of his opening monologue.
Jimmy Kimmel ensured that the Oscars 2023 are off to a fantastic start as his opening monologue was all kinds of funny. Everyone was waiting to see if he brings up last year's slap that took place on stage and Kimmel did not disappoint. For the unversed, last year at the Oscars, actor Will Smith had slapped comedian Chris Rock on stage after the latter joked about Jada Pinkett Smith's condition.
Kimmel did troll Will Smith at Oscars 2023, however, his jokes were relatively light pertaining to the issue.
"Five Irish actors are nominated tonight, which means the chances of a fight just went way up. We want you to have fun, and feel safe, and, most importantly, we want me to feel safe. So, we have strict policies in place. If anyone in this theater commits an act of violence at any point during the show, you will be awarded the Oscar for best actor and permitted to give a 19-minute long speech," Kimmel said in his monologue.
"But seriously, the academy has a crisis team in place. If anything unpredictable or violent happens during the show, sit there and do absolutely nothing like last year. Maybe even give the assailant a hug. And if any of you get mad at a joke and decide you want to get jiggy with it — it’s not going to be easy," he added.

Jimmy Kimmel is himself no stranger to controversy at the Oscars. When he had hosted the event in 2017, 'La La Land' was incorrectly announced as the winner for Best Picture when it was 'Moonlight' that had picked up the win.
The 95th Academy Awards are being held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Jimmy Kimmel is hosting the mega awards night and this is his third time, hosting the event, after the 89th and 90th editions of the ceremony which were held in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
The nominations for Oscars 2023 were announced on January 24 by actors Riz Amed and Allison Williams.
Both 'Avatar: The Way Of Water' and 'Top Gun: Maverick' secured nominations in the Best Picture category, and hence this marked the first time that two sequels will be featuring in one ceremony.
'All Quiet on the Western Front' secured nine nominations for this year's Oscars. Michelle Yeoh, the star of 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' became the first Asian to pick up a nomination in the Best Actress category.
