Director Jeethu Joseph recently opened up ‘Drishyam’ and the film getting remade in Hollywood.

Indian writer-director Jeethu Joseph came out with a masterpiece in 2013. And no points for guessing that we are talking about ‘Drishyam’, starring Mohanlal. The crime thriller received widespread acclaim and was even remade in several languages including Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Chinese and more. Recently it was reported that ‘Drishyam’ is also being remade in Hollywood. With the buzz around the Hollywood remake of ‘Drishyam’, fans are still debating whether the movie belongs to Malayalam cinema or Hindi. Amid the viral debate, the director of the original film, Jeethu Joseph, has weighed in on it.

Since the release of its Hindi adaptation in 2015, ‘Drishyam’ has become to be known as Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn’s movie.

Addressing the ongoing debate, Jeethu Joseph first expressed his happiness over his directorial getting remade in Hollywood.

“As a filmmaker, I am extremely excited and happy that a film I created is being remade in Hollywood. The film deals with a universal subject. It is a story of family love and security, more than a crime thriller, which is why it has so much appeal among people of different languages,” The Indian Express quoted him as saying.

The Indian director further said, “Some of the Hindi films, which were remade in Malayalam and other languages, were more popular than the original. That said and done, those who have watched and loved the movie know the original film starring Mohanlal was directed by me.”

The Hindi remake of ‘Drishyam’, helmed by late director Nishikant Kamat, featured Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran and Tabu in the lead roles.

‘Drishyam’, revolving around a man doing everything to save his family from a murder accusation, has been released two parts in both Hindi and Malayalam versions.

The movie is titled ‘Drishya’ (2014) in Kannada, ‘Drushyam’ (2014) in Telugu, ‘Papanasam’ (2015) in Tamil.

Coming back to Jeethu Joseph, he last came out with Mohanlal-starrer ‘Neru’, which hit the silver screens on December 21, 2023. The film, which received widespread acclaim, also featured Priyamani, Siddique, Anaswara Rajan, Jagadish, KB Ganesh Kumar and more in prominent roles.

The filmmaker is all set to collaborate with Mohanlal again, marking their fifth collaboration together, for a project titled ‘Ram’.

Reportedly, it is a two-part franchise and will feature an ensemble cast including Trisha KrishnanIndrajith Sukumaran, Saikumar, Siddique, Anoop Menon and more. The release date of the film has not been announced yet.
